DANTE: A REPUTATION WELL URNED

Dante proved himself long ago.  These are proofs from the winter of 2011.

Standing beside the cast iron urn on the front porch he is not only handsome, but picturesque.  The curves of the urn and the curves of Dante's body are in symmetry once juxtaposed.

We start off with a couple of close-ups.

He has such an 'urnest' look on his face, too.

He is focussed and intense.

And Dante is, himself, statuesque.

He will forever endure as a fine example of the feline form.

DANTE: NO SWEAT!

This is a picture from January of 2012.

Here's Dante in his favourite sweater.  January can be quite nippy, so he's glad of the extra layer (especially around his achy hips).

Dante always wondered why they called it a 'sweater' though because it never made him sweat!  It just made him feel nice 'n cozy.  So perhaps sweaters should be called cozies.

Whaddya think?

DANTE: THE BENCHMARK

Dante was indeed the benchmark for a Maine Coon cat.   And here's the proof:

He sat on a bench ...

... and he definitely made his mark in this world.

Pawsome, n'est-ce paw?

DANTE: TYPICAL MAINE COON

Here's Dante in the winter of 2009.

Just like Superman, Dante has his own Fortress of Solitude.  Being a Maine Coon he is right at home in the snow, and enjoys the winter weather.

Dante was an extremely 'typey' Maine Coon, meaning that he was a good representative of Maine Coon characteristics.

Of course, Maine Coons get quite large because they take up to four years to mature completely. They have medium-long fur with a ruff around the neck.  The fur on their backs is water-repellant and smooth, while the fur on their underbelly is long and shaggy.  They have lynx-like ears, tufts of fur between their toes, and an extravagant tail that is sometimes reminiscent of a luxurious feather.  Their eyes are known for being large, oblique and intelligent.

In the picture above, Dante displays all of these characteristics and more.  Dante was (and is) just my type!

Case study or basket case?

DANTE: SWEATER BOY!

These are pictures of my cuddly boy taken a year ago in January.

In the last years of his life, Dante suffered from arthritis in his hips, so aside from just modelling the sweater, it helped to keep him warm outside in the winter.

And although he was such a handsome boy, he could also be just downright 'cute'!

DANTE: DIGGIN' IT!

This is Dante in our back yard in the winter of 2011.

I'm not sure if it's typical of Maine Coons, but Dante certainly loved to dig.  He'd dig in the garden mulch in warm weather, and in the snow in winter.  Of course much of this digging had a very distinct purrpose (emphasis on the stink)!

The outdoors was one big kitty litter to Dante.  He always made good use of whatever was around him.

This picture is particularly pretty (if you don't think about the circumstances) given the lightly falling snow.  It captures a moment in time for all time.

DANTE: PHILOSOFUR EXTRAORDINAIRE!

Here's a lovely portrait of Dante from the winter of 2010.

He's sitting on the deck in the back yard looking like the philosoFUR that he truly was.  In many of his photos, he appears to be deep in thought.  One can only imagine what was going through his mind at the time; which of the world's greatest mysteries he was trying to unravel.

Whatever it was ...

... Dante was purrpetually on 'top' of it!

DANTE: HERE'S LOOKIN' AT YOU, KIDS!

Here's Dante in the winter of 2010.

Dante's staring straight into the camera like he's in direct communication with you.  He always was a very straightforward kinda cat.  What you saw is what you got!
