DANTE ALL FLOOFED UP!

These pictures are a couple of weeks old, before all the leaves were raked up from the front yard. It was windy and whipping around Dante's fur here and there.

These shots show just how much his coat has filled out. It's mostly his undercoat, his mane and the fur around his face that floof up. It's almost like he has swelled -- but he's still his same svelte self under all that bounty.

Also, I have been asked why I keep Dante on a leash, and the answer to that is twofold. First of all, I signed a contract with his breeder stating that I would not allow him to roam free. Second of all, even his vet is in agreement that if I did let him roam, someone is quite likely to take him.

From all of my experience, taking him to the pet store and even to the vet's office, people are very attracted to him. And I've had lots of people tell me jokingly they want to take him home. How many of you would like to take him home with you?

Dante is allowed out without a leash in our backyard which is completely fenced, with all possible escape holes sealed up with mesh wire. My other ally in keeping Dante secure is gravity itself. He is too heavy to jump the fence like the other cats.

For your extra added enjoyment, here is another video of Dante taken just the other day. It's my friend, Susan, talking in the background.

Here's the link to YouTube:

Unfortunately this is true of all Coons, even the ones that might not be purebreds. That's one of the reasons I keep my babies leashed up. Curzon will go out at night with me when it's warm without one, but he is trained to stay nearby me, and he warns me if he sees something suspicious, so I can scoop him up and get him away from it. The other reason I don't let mine even outside much is there's so much that can kill them here, from deer trampling them to coons and possums to kids and heavy traffic at times. You're doing Dante a favor, though he might not agree with it. At least he does have a safe area he can go free in, so that helps. Don't count on the weight though. If he's determined enough he'll at least try to get to that fence, and he is probably already plotting how to get high enough to get over it. Coons are some of the most inteligent if not the most inteligent cats I've ever known.

We agree that someone might want to take Dante. He is so beautiful that he might be irresistible to someone.

It seems bery plausable that would take a shine to Dante and take him home. We're glad that you're keeping him safe!

Definitely someone would take Dante! We never go outside because of all the pesticides that they use on the lawns here. We're too shy, anyway, so mama spares us the trauma.

He is quite handsome. Even if someone didn't take him, who knows where he might decide to explore?

Mummy is gettin' on a plane with her big black bag after seeing that last photo...

We think you are very smart for your decision to keep Dante on a lead. Neither of us are allowed outside, and we're both very happy being inside and safe. Mummy and daddy make sure that we get lots of running around time and we have lots of toys :) Dante is a lucky boy.
